Moxibustion
Moxibustion treats diseases by applying heat to acupuncture points or certain locations on the body. Moxa-wool is the material that is used for moxibustion and consists of Artemesia Vulgaris, a species of Chrysanthemum. Moxa can open the twelve regular meridians, regulating qi and blood, expelling cold and dampness, warming the organs to remove stagnation and stops bleeding. Moxa can be administered with Moxa cones, Moxa sticks or warming needle.
Moxa techniques include Direct Moxibustion in which Moxa is applied directly to the skin in a scarring or non-scarring manner. Indirect Moxibustion is another technique in the which Moxa is applied with a ginger, garlic or salt insulation.
